A tentative research on the divination number of "eight" recorded in Zuo Zhuan and Guo Yu

Abstract

As important classics recording historical events of the Spring period, Zuo Zhuan (Zuo's Commentaries on the Spring Annals) and Guo Yu(Remarks of Monarchs) could exert functions which can not be underrated for us to study the basic circumstance in I Ching learning research of the pre-Qin times. The character of 八(eight) has been a puzzle left by Zuo Zhuan and Guo Yu. On the basis of the predecessors' achievements, the author elucidated her opinion on the character of 八,to induce others to come forward with better ideas.
