Abstract

Due to the complexity and uncertainty of the geological conditions, geological hazards often occur during the construction of tunnels. This paper presents a case history of applying Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR) in the construction of Cikou Tunnel of Songjian Expressway. The scanned images obtained by GPR were verified with the existing geological information and the tunnel excavation. The results indicate that the GPR prediction is a good measure of detecting fractured and/or groundwater rich zones in the tunnel construction.
