Countermeasures on Tourism Development of Open Coastal Cities in China

This paper took 14 open coastal cities in China as the study subjects and quantitatively explored the competitiveness of urban tourism from five indexes,such as the overall economic competitiveness,the level of tourism development,infrastructure,the ecological environment,and the index of science and education and health.Using factor analysis,the score of each index was calculated with the mean squared deviation.Then 14 cities were stratified into 5 clusters by cluster analysis.The results showed that Shanghai and Guangzhou had the biggest competitiveness of tourism and in the future they would continue to maintain the dominant position.Tianjin,Ningbo,Qingdao and Dalian had the bigger competitiveness and they took the leading and pulling role on the surrounding region tourism development.The remaining eight cities had little competitiveness.Lastly,developing countermeasures of open coastal cities were proposed.
