A Review of Researches on New Urban Poverty in China and Abroad

Research in foreign countries on new urban poverty is relatively mature.For the definition of poverty,it has been expanded from income poverty to capability poverty,entitlement poverty,underclass,and social exclusion.For the cause of poverty,there have appeared a variety of theoretical explanations,including the viewpoints of individualism,poverty culture,structuralism,and functionalism.Comparatively speaking,the new urban poverty research in China is still at its beginning stage.It is basically confined to the study of new urban poor population's composition,characteristics,causes of poverty and its solutions.Domestic research still has some defects and shows some questions urgently to be solved.
