Abstract
Neuron specific enolase (NSE) is a glycolytic enzyme, which is localized specifically to the neuronal cyloplasm and has been proposed as a biochemical marker of neuronal cell damage. The release levels of NSE into seram and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with traumatic brain injury (TBI) were monitored as a relevant biochemical marker for assessing the lesion degree and the prognosis of TBI. In this article, the author summarizes published primary research on NSE and TBI from the present literature, arguing that NSE is a high specific and sensitive marker for judging the outcome and the severity of brain insult, which probably contributes to the diagnosis of TBI.
