Abstract
Objective To study the effects of tea polyphenol(TP) on inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis as well as induction of apoptosis in tumor bearing mice. Methods C57BL/6J mice implanted with Lewis lung cancer were administered with TP, 62.5 mg/kg,125.0 mg/kg,250.0 mg/kg daily, respectively, through a gastric tube for 13 days, while normal saline for the control. Results At dose of 62.5 mg/kg, TP showed no inhibition on the cancer cells. With the dose of 125.0 mg/kg and 250.0 mg/kg , tumour inhibition was 27.2% and 18.8%, respectively. In control group, apoptosis index was 24.90±2.42; apoptosis indexes of TP at doses of 62.5 mg/kg,125.0 mg/kg,250.0 mg/kg were 23.90±2.81,43.00±2.58 and 33.38±2.13, respectively. There were great differences among the control group,125.0 mg/kg group and 250.0 mg/kg group( F=123.56,q= 10.044 ,22.740,P 0.001).The average number of metastatic foci on lung surface decreased from 13.17 to 5.17 by taking TP for three weeks ( t=7.14,P0.01 ). Conclusion TP can inhibit the growth and metastasis of Lewis lung cancer, the underlying mechanism of which is associated with induction of apoptosis.
