Abstract

Objective To study the effect of losartan on uric acid metabolism in patients with senile hypertension associated with hyperuricemia. Methods Ninty patients with senile hypertension and hyperuricemia were selected for study. The change in serum level of uric acid was observed after treatment by losartan for eight weeks. Results The mean level of serum uric acid was 310.2±29.0 μmol/L after losartan treatment for eight weeks. In comparison with pre-treatment level(524.6±85.4 μmol/L),the serum level of uric acid had apparently been reduced(P0.01).And the levels of systolic pressure and diastolic pressure were significantly decreased after treatment(P0.01).Conclusion Losartan can reduce the blood pressure and it can also decrease the serum level of uric acid.
