Abstract
Based on the research of the developing situation and the analysis of the faced key problems of the design environment for the Parallel Machine Tools(PMTs), combinated with the virtual manufacturing technology, the Virtual Product Design System(VPDS) for PMTs is presented.The engineering value of the VPDS is evaluated and its primary framework is built. The developed system is composed of three platforms, which concern the concept design and kinematic design, combinatorial design and dynamic design, operation process simulation and operation capability analysis. This system will provide a digital integrated environment for the designers, researchers and users of PMTs.
