Impact of edaravone combined with folic acid on the serum levels of nitric oxide, malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase in patients with acute cerebral infarction

Abstract
Objective To observe the efficacy of edaravone combined with folic acid in patients with acute cerebral infarction and its impact on the serum levels of nitric oxide(NO), malondialdehyde(MDA) and superoxide dismutase(SOD). Methods 380 patients with cerebral infarction, from January 2013 to March 2014, were randomly divided into observation group and control group, each group had 190 cases. The control group were given folic acid, observation group were treated with folic acid combined with edaravone. Efficacy were observed in each group after treatment; NIHSS scores, ADL score, NO, and MDA levels were detected before and after treatment. Results The total effective rates of observation group and control group were 92.00% and 72.00%, respectively. The efficacy of observation group was significantly better than that of control group(χ2=24.520, P 0.01). After treatment, the NIHSS score, NO and MDA levels were significantly lower than those before treatment(P 0.01), and lower levels were more obvious in observation group(P 0.01). The ADL score and SOD levels was significantly higher after treatment than those before treatment(P 0.01); elevated levels in observation group was significantly more obvious when compared with the control group(P 0.01). Conclusion The efficacy of edaravone combined with folic acid in patients with acute cerebral infarction is obvious. They can help to clear the oxygen free radicals in the body, protect the brain cells, so as to improve the efficacy of cerebral infarction, improve the quality of life of patients.
