Abstract

Aim:To study the relationship between the mRNA and protein expression of B7-H1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and neoplasm metastasis. Methods:Expressions of B7-H1 in 54 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and in 8 cases of tumor adjacent normal esophageal mucous tissue were assayed by immunohistochemical staining and RT-PCR, and its correlations with patients’ clinical pathological indexes were analyzed. Results:The positive rates of B7-H1 protein and B7-H1 mRNA were 48.2% and 31.5%, respectively. But B7-H1 was negative in tumor adjacent normal esophageal mucous tissue. The positive rates of B7-H1 protein and B7-H1 mRNA in esophageal carcinoma tissue were both related to the depth of carcinoma infiltration, lymph node metastasis and pTNM stage (P0.05).Conclusion: Detection of the expression level of B7-H1 in esophageal carcinoma plays an important role in judging invasion, metastasis and development of esophageal carcinoma.
