Abstract

There were various types of villages and towns in Southern Shanxi Province in the records during Qing Dynasty.The main commercial villages and towns reflected the general state of regional economical development.Lots of villages and towns located at valleys and riversides and convenient position.The distance from villages and towns to the cities showed a curve distribution just as a parabolic trend.Until the late Qing Dynasty,the overall number of villages and towns had increased,especially concentrating upon the commercial and postal delivery villages and towns.
