Abstract

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of microwave sterilization of dental impression. METHODS The dental impression was polluted with hepatitis B virus and Bacillus subtilis, then disinfected by microwave sterilization.Hepatitis B virus DNA and B.subtilis were detected to evaluated the effect of disinfection with nucleic acid amplification quantitative fluorescence technology. RESULTS Microwave sterilized for 3min and no hepatitis B virus was detected, disinfection passing rate reached 100%.The difference was statistically significant(P0.01) compared with disinfection for 1min,2mim.Microwave sterilization for 5 min,B.subtilis was not detected(P0.01).Microwave sterilization for 5min,the detection rates of HBV-DNA and B.subtilis in saline or serum were both 0. CONCLUSION Microwave sterilization can reach the same disinfection effect with high temperature and high pressure steam sterilization. It is an economical, effective and reliable disinfection method.
