Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of scleral encircling and buckling, drainage combined with croytherapy operations on long-standing retinal detachment.Design Retrospective, noncomparative case series.Participants 13 cases (13 eyes) diagnosed as long-standing retinal detachment. Methods 13 cases (13 eyes)with long-standing retinal detachment were treated with scleral encircling and buckling, drainage combined with croytherapy operations.Retinal reattachment state, visual acuity, intraocular pressure and postoperative complications were analyzed.Main Outcome Measures Visual acuity, intraocular pressures and retinal reattachment state. Results Postoperatively,13 cases (13 eyes) were anatomically reattached.Visual acuity in 6 cases was improved.Visual acuity was not prominently improved in 7 cases, but they felt better comparing with preoperative state.Intraocular pressure remained normal and no complication occurred during 1 year follow-up.Conclusions Scleral encircling and buckling procedures can be used to effectively treat selected cases of long-standing retinal detachment.
