Effects of electric-acupuncture and fluoxetine on depression and neurological function of post-stroke depression patients

Objective To evaluate the effects of electric-acupuncture and fluoxetine on depression and neurological function of post-stroke depression(PSD) patients.Methods A total of 95 patients with PSD were randomly divided into the group A,B and C,they were treated with electric-acupuncture,medicine,and electric-acupuncture combined with medicine respectively.The degree of depression and neurological function defect,side-effects were evaluated by hamilton depression scale(HAMD),the clinical neurological function defect scale and the treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) before and after treatment.Results After treatment for 6 weeks,HAMD scores,the clinical neurological function defect scale and TESS scores were significantly different in 3 groups(P0.05),which in the group C was much better than those in group A and B(P0.05).Conclusion Electric-acupuncture combined with fluoxetine could regulate depression and improve neurological function and reduce side effects of medicine in treating PSD patients.It is deserved to be applied to clinical use.
