Expression of MMP-26 protein in cervical carcinoma and its significance

Abstract

Objective:To detect the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-26(MMP-26) in cervical carcinoma,analyze its relationship with clinical pathological characteristics,demonstrate its effect and significance in occurrence and development of cervical carcinoma.Methods:The expression levels of MMP-26 protein in 10 cases with normal cervical tissues,107 cases with cervical carcinoma in situ and invasive cervical carcinoma were detected by immunohistochemical staining,its relationship with clinical pathological characteristics of cervical carcinoma was analyzed.Results:MMP-26 showed strong positive staining in cervical carcinoma in situ and invasive cervical carcinoma,their positive rates were 83.33% and 82.47%,respectively.The positive staining mostly located in the cytoplasm of tumor cells,margins of cancer nests and basal cell carcinoma cells;there was significant difference in MMP-26 expression level between cervical carcinoma in situ,invasive cervical carcinoma and normal cervical tissues(P0.05).There was correlation between MMP-26 expression and myometrium invasion depth of cervical carcinoma,lymph node metastasis,but MMP-26 was not correlated with histological types,clinical stages,pathological grades and ages.Conclusion:MMP-26 plays an important role in early invasion and metastasis of cervical carcinoma,which may be a potential marker of early diagnosis and metastasis of cervical carcinoma.
