Comparative study on the curative effects and safety between ZHUANGGU TONGBI pill and glucosamine sulfate capsules in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis

Objective:To observe and compare the clinical curative effects and safety between ZHUANGGU TONGBI pill and glucosamine sulfate capsules in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods:One hundred and twenty patients met the requirements were randomly divided into treatment group and control group,60 cases in each group.Patients in the treatment group were administrated with ZHUANGGU TONGBI pill,while the others in the control group were administrated with glucosamine sulfate capsules,treatment of 12 weeks in total.Lequesne index,clinical curative effects and adverse reactions during the treatment period of the patients were observed and compared between the 2 groups after the treatment.Results:①There was no statistical difference in Lequesne index between the 2 groups before the treatment(t=0.954,P=0.348);after the treatment,the Lequesne index of the 2 groups were all reduced and that of the treatment group reduced more(t=6.228,P=0.000).②After the treatment,symptoms and signs of patients in the 2 groups were all improved,and clinical curative effect of treatment group was better than that of control group(χ2=7.026,P=0.008).③No anaphylaxis was found in the 2 groups during the treatment period.Two patients with constipation,1 case with increased blood pressure and 1 case with elevated heart rate were found in the treatment group;while 3 cases with nausea and constipation,1 case with elevated heart rate and 1 case with lightly impaired liver function were found in the control group.After symptomatic treatment,the adverse reactions of the 2 groups were all disappeared.There was no statistical difference in adverse reaction ratio between the 2 groups(χ2=0.100,P=0.752).Conclusion:ZHUANGGU TONGBI pill can significantly improve the clinical symptoms and signs and the joint functions for the KOA patients without serious adverse reactions during the treatment period,therefore,it has a certain application value in the treatment of KOA.
