Clinical application of the peripherally inserted central catheter guided by ultrasound

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of the peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) under the ultrasound.Methods: 77 patients who needed PICC were randomized into 2 groups: under ultrasound PICC group(35) and routine group(42).Routine group stick with the traditional way,and the other group were under the ultrasound.Results: There was significant difference between two groups at the first time success rate of catheterization,the first time rate of catheter's apex in the right place and the incidence of mechanical phlebitis after catheterization(P0.05).And there was no difference between two groups at the incidence of vein thrombosis(P0.05).Conclusion: The PICC under the ultrasound has higher probability of success,lower rate of complication,less pain of patients and higher safety of nursing procedure.
