Significance of macrophage migration inhibitory factor and IL-6 in premature rupture of membranes

Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF) in fetal membranes and level of IL-6 in maternal sera of pregnant women with premature rupture of fetal membranes(PROM),and their relationship with chorioamnionitis.Methods Using immunohistological method to investigate the distributions and expressions of MIF in the specimens of 60 full-term PROM patients and 40 full-term non-PROM patients.Using ELISA to test the level of IL-6 in pregnancy woman's sera.Using HE staining to define histopathology diagnosis:chorioamnionitis and unchorioamnionitis.ResultsThe quantity of MIF positive cells in fetal membrane and the level of IL-6 in maternal sera in PROM patients were significantly higher than those in non-PROM patients.The quantity of MIF positive cells in fetal membrane and the level of IL-6 in maternal sera in PROM patients were increased with the prolongation of time of PROM.The quantity of MIF positive cells in fetal membrane and the level of IL-6 in maternal sera in PROM patients with chorioamnionitis were obviously higher than those in PROM patients without chorioamnionitis.Conclusions MIF and IL-6 play an important role in pathogenesis of PROM,MIF and IL-6 are related to chorioamnionitis closely.
