Abstract

Objective To determine the efficacy and safety of the combination therapy with BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid and ebastine in the treatment of chronic urticaria. Methods Eighty patients with chronic urticaria were divided into two groups. The treatment group received BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid 1 mg once every other day, plus oral ebastine,10 mg,once a day for four weeks. In the control group only daily 10mg of oral ebastine was administrated for four weeks. The assessments were made on day 14 and day 30 after the treatment. Results The overall score of symptoms/signs was significantly reduced in the treatment group compared with control group(P0.01).The total effective rate was 82.5% in the treatment group and 57.5% in the control group(χ2=5.952,P0.05).In addition,no obvious adverse effect was observed in the treatment group. Conclusion The combination of BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid and ebastine has an obvious therapeutic effectiveness and is safe in the treatment of chronic urticaria.
