Abstract

Objective To investigate the deaths from injury in Cixi city and the health hazards for residents. Methods The data were collected from the disease and injury deaths reporting system and coded per the international classification of diseases.Cases of injury death from 2008 to 2010 were epidemiologically analyzed, and the years of potential life(PYLL) were calculated. Results The injury death rate of residents in Cixi city was 48.14/lakh.The standardized death rate was 56.69/lakh,accounting for 7.40% of total deaths.Injury ranked fourth in all causes of death and second in relation to the PYLL.The top five death causes of fatal injury among the residents were traffic accidents, drowning, falling, other adverse accidents and suicide, accounting for 92.16% of all injury deaths. Conclusion Fatal injury is the major cause of death among the residents in Cixi city.Systematic interference should be performed to control and prevent the injury.
