Analysis of the Injury Deaths during 2007 to 2009 among Urban Residents in Shiyan City

Objective To know the level and distribution of injury deaths among urban residents of Shiyan City during 2007 to 2009.Methods Data was derived from the city disease death surveillance database during 2007 to 2009 and population data of public security and civil affairs bureaus,all death causes were code by ICD-10 and analyzed.Results During 2007 to 2009,there were 680 injury deaths among residents in Shiyan City,accounting for 11.87% of total deaths,ranking the third cause of death,the annual average mortality rate of 59.91/100 000;462 injury deaths was in males,the average mortality rate was 77.77/100 000 while 218 injury deaths in female and the annual average mortality rate was 40.30/100 000,the difference was statistically significant (P0.01).Top 10 causes of death were injuries other than motor vehicle transport accidents,accidental falls,motor vehicle accidents,suicide,other accidents and adverse effects,accidental poisoning,drowning,accidental mechanical asphyxia,killed,electric shock.The years of life lost of Injury were 16 189 person o years,the PYLL rate was 14.26 ‰.Conclusion Damage is an important cause of death to residents of the city,is at the top of PYLL sequence of all causes of deaths,it should carry out targeted injury prevention interventions.
