Comparison study of aripiprazole and haloperidol in treatment of schizophrenia

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of aripiprazole and haloperidol in treatment of schizophrenia.Methods Antipsychotic efficacy was assessed by positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS)and clinical global impressions-secerity of illness rating scale of illness rating scale(CGL-SI),antipsychotic side effect was assessed by treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS),and rating scale for extrapyrarnidal side effects(RSESE)in 35 patients treated by aripiprazole(aripiprazole group)and 36 patients treated by haloperidol(hakioerudol group)for six weeks.Results The efficacy was similar in two groups.The reduction of total negative score in patients of aripiprazole group was significantly higher than that in haloperidol group after 4 and 6 weeks.Patients in aripiprazole group had significantly less side effects.Conclusion Aripiprazole is an effective and safe antipsychotic.
