Abstract
Objective To compare the efficacy and side effects of aripiprazole and haloperidol on patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Methods 78 patients with the diagnosis of treatment- resistant schizophrenia were randomly assigned to aripiprazole or haloperidol treatment for 12 weeks. Efficacy and side effects were measured with PANSS and TESS. Results The overall therapeutic effect of aripiprazole(61.54%) was superior to that of haloperidol (43.59%).There were statistical differences in the PANSS total scores and N or G scale scores between the two groups (P0.01). Conclusions Aripiprazole is superior to haloperidol in the treatment-resistant schizophrenia, especially to negative symptoms.
