A comparative study of aripiprazole and haloperidol in the treatment of senile schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety between aripiprazole and haloperidol in the treatment of senile schizophrenia.Methods:86 patients with senile schizophrenia were randomly divided into two groups receiving aripiprazole or haloperidol treatment respectively.The periods of treatment were 12 weeks.The positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) were used to evaluate the efficacy and side effects.Results: 12 weeks after treatment than before treatment PANSS score had dropped significantly in the two groups.Aripiprazole group efficiency was 69.76%,effective rate was 88.37%,haloperidol group were 65.12%and 86.05%,the two groups had no significant difference(P0.05),Aripiprazole group adverse reactions and less light Conclusion:Aripiprazole and Haloperidol have defined effect in the treatment of senile schizophrenia.Aripiprazole has slight side and good safety.
