The effect of edaravone on the levels of serum interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in lung injury patients induced by paraquat poisoning

Objective: To explore the effects of edaravone on the levels of serum interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in lung injury patients induced by paraquat poisoning.Methods: Forty patients with paraquat poisoning were randomly divided into control group and treatment group.The control group were treated with routine therapy,the treatment group were treated with 30 mg of edaravone twice a day for 14 days combined with routine therapy.The levels of serum IL-6 and TNF-α in two groups were measured before and after treatment.Results: The levels of serum IL-6 and TNF-α in two groups before treatment were not statistical significance(P 0.05).The levels of serum IL-6 and TNF-α in two groups after treatment obviously decreased(P 0.01).Compared with control group,the decreasing IL-6 and TNF-α levels in treatment group after treatment were obviously more(P 0.01).Conclusions: Edaravone can effectively decrease the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α and alleviate the lung injury in patients induced by paraquat poisoning.
