Temporal-spatial Characteristics of Energy Consumption in China and Its Determinants since the 1990s

In recent years, with the fast development of Chinese economy, fast growth appears in energy consumption. However, the amount of energy supply in China can't satisfy energy consumption in China, which will lead to China's large energy import from the international market. Therefore, how to ensure higher economic growth with lower energy consumption has been the main problem which deserves close attention of the government and researchers. The analysis on the space and time character istics of energy consumption in China since the 1990s suggests that macroeconomic amount, industrial structure, the urbanization level and the change of the citizen's consumption structure are major factors of influencing the energy consumption amount increase, and the energy consumption regional difference. In order to ensure energy consumption and the sustainable development of social economy, we must regulate and control the above factors macroscopically, and lead it to sustainable energy utilization.
