Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 and CD34 in human cervical squamous carcinoma tissue, and their overexpressions in tumor's formation and progression were also discussed. Methods:Expressions of COX-2 and CD34 were detected by Two-step immunohistochemical staining on 94 cases with cervical squamous cell carcinoma,26 cases with CIN and 5 cases with normal cervical epithelial tissues.Results:COX-2 expression in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN)and squamous cell carcinoma were increased, the positive rates were 53.85%,77.66% respectively. With the reduction in the degree of differentiation,COX-2 expression was significantly increased. The positive rate in poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma was significantly higher than that in well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma(P0.01) and expression in lymph node metastasis group was significantly higher than those without lymph node metastasis group(P0.01).MVD increased with pathological grade increasing and was significantly higher in grade Ⅲ(46.21±9.07);MVD in lymph node metastasis group(42.27±12.36)was significantly higher than that without metastasis(26.58±7.15)(P0.01).Expression of COX-2 and CD34 in normal cervical epithelium was negative;and expression had no significant relationship between patient's age and clinical stage(P0.05).Conclusion:The high expression of COX-2 and increased MVD were observed in cervical squamous cell carcinoma tissues.COX-2 may promote the progression of cervical squamous cell carcinoma by contributing to tumor angiogenesis,in which they may play an important role in the progression.
