Clinical observation of treatment of postpartum hemorrhage by uterine artery embolization

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of uterine artery embolization(UAE) in massive postpartum hemorrhage.Methods 23 patients with postpartum hemorrhage failing to respond to any medical treatment underwent femoral artery puncture by Seldinger technique,followed by catheterization of the bilateral uterine arteries using supper-selection technique by DSA.The patients were treated with artery embolization.Results UAE for the 23 patients with postpartum hemorrhage was successful.Conclusion The therapy is a reliable method with the advantage of stopping bleeding rapidly,improving the rate of success,decreasing complications and saving the uterus.
