Comparative analysis of Ziprasidone and Risperidone in the treatment of schizoprenia

Objective:To explore the efficacy and safety of Ziprasidone in treatment of schizophrenia.Methods:64 patients with schizophrenia were randomly assigned to Ziprasidone group(n=34) and Resperdone group(n=34),treatment 8 weeks.Positive and negative syndromescale(PANSS)and treatment emergent side effect scale(TESS) were used to evaluate the efficacy and side effects respectively.Results:The response rate and marked response rate in patients of Ziprasidone group were 64.7% and 82.4% after 8 weeks,similar to Risperdone group.Both the total PANSS scores and factor scores decreased significantly after treatment in two groups(67.6% and 85.2%).However,there were no significant differences between two groups.Total incidenceof side effects in Ziprasidone group was significantly lower than that in Risperidone group.Conclusion:Ziprasidone has a better efficacy in treatment of schizophrenia,wich is as effective as Resperidone and has fewer side effects compared with Risperdone.
