Maoji(冒籍)in Imperial Examination in Qing Dynasty and the Conflict between the Natives and the Settlers

The census register system is the guarantee of imperial examination system implementation.However,the census register system in Qing Dynasty met the difficulties and challenges such as development of commodity economy, the increasing number of people's circulation,and the transformation of society.Maoji(冒籍)refers to those who assume the identities of other people, which became the illegal way to the official career.The different kinds of Maoji(冒籍)caused the severe conflict between the natives and the settlers.From the perspective view of social history of imperial examination,this paper explains the Maoji(冒籍)issue,and helps the better understanding of social contradictions in Qing Dynasty.
