Abstract
In the process of imperial examination reform in late Qing Dynasty,the change of examination subjects not only made the scholars to read the new books characterized of modern learning,but also led to great changes of the press business.During the reform period,the local officials' attitude to the modern or the traditional learning was an important factor for causing varied reading orientations in different regions.The new standard of official selection also gave rise to the changes in the style of writing which could be regarded as a symbol of the shifting of general mood in the intellectual circle.The intellectual effect of the institutional reform provided an important perspective to understand the transition of learning in the late Qing Dynasty.
