Abstract

The paper proves the following factors that effect the stability of suspended river of the Yellow River from geological point of view: a) control mechanism of geological structure; b) river geomorphology; c) structure of bed load and earth mass and; d) geological function of river dynamics. The paper puts forward suggestions on management and control of the suspended river of the Yellow River based on the above condition: a) Embankments facing the river on the lower Yellow River are not suitable to be heightened continuously; b) strengthening the embankments on the lower river should fully consider the geological conditions; c) to rebuild the geomorphology of the lower Yellow River; d) to regulate water and sediment by fully utilizing hydraulic structures located on the middle reaches; e) to speed up the progress of Water Transfer Project from South to North and; f) to strengthen the work of soil and water conservation of the upper reaches where is the original area of sediment.
