Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the epidemic characteristics of public health emergencies in Jiangsu,to provide a scientific basis for establishing prevention and control policy and build response ability.METHODS We downloaded the data of public health emergencies reported in Jiangsu during 2006-2009 from'Emergency Public Reporting System'which is a sub-system of 'China Information System for Diseases Control and Prevention'.Then,we made a descriptive study on the epidemic characteristics of public health emergencies in Jiangsu province.RESULTS A total of 726 public health emergencies were reported in Jiangsu during 2006-2009,which caused 24 462 diseases and 51 deaths and affected more than 2 million populations.Most of the emergencies were caused by infectious diseases.And the major infectious diseases were varicella,mumps,influenza AH1N1,influenza,cholera,and etc.Public health emergencies were reported in all cities in Jiangsu,while the numbers were relatively more in Yangzhou,Nanjing and Xuzhou.The events between April and August were significantly more than that in other months.School was the most important place for a public health emergency;main classification was general events,non-graded events constituted a high proportion of 47.38%.CONCLUSION The prevalence of public health emergencies shows a long-term trend of increasing in Jiangsu.We should strengthen the prevention and control efforts for respiratory infectious diseases in the prevalent seasons,and must attach great importance to the public health emergencies in schools.The situation of prevention and control for the public health emergencies is still grim in Jiangsu,we should constructively build the response capacity on the current situation.
