Preliminary study on the expression and significance of VEGF in endometrial cancer

Objective To study the role and the significance of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)expression and the relationship between VEGF and clinicopathologic characteristics of endometrial cancer.Methods Immunohistochemical staining was used to quantify VEGF expression and microvessel density(MVD)in 60 cases of endometrial cancer,25 cases of atypical hyperplasia of endometrium and 25 cases of normal endometrium tissues.Results The positive expression rate of VEGF in endometrial cancer was 65%,The expression of VEGF and MVD were significantly higher in endometrial cancer than that in atypical hyperplasia of endometrium and normal endometrium tissues(P0.05).In respect of lymph node metastasis,pathology stages and tumor's differentiation degrees were correlated with VEGF expression(P0.05),but there was no significant correlation between the patients' age and tumor size(P0.05).Conclusion VEGF would play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of endometrial cancer and it would be the target for the therapy of anti-angiogenesis in endometrial cancer.
