Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiogenesis in endometrial carcinoma and the relationship with clinicopathologic factors. Methods S P immunohistochemical method was used to detect VEGF expression and MVD in 50 cases of endometrial carcinoma and 10 cases of normal endometrium. Results The positive rate of VEGF(92%) and MVD in endometrial carcinoma (46.0±4.5) were both higher that those in normal endometrium (30%,14.0±1.7 respectively). The difference was significant ( P 0.01). There were 43 cases of endometrial carcinoma which have myometrial invasion of one-half or less, the positive rate of VEGF was 90.7%. Seven cases of myometrial invasion of more than one half were all positive of VEGF. The difference was not significant ( P 0.05). MVD of myometrial invasion of one half or more group (69.9±16.8) was more than that of less than one-half group(42.8±4.4).The difference was significant ( P 0.05). No correlation was examined among the expression of VEGF, MVD and other clinicopathologic factors in endometrial carcinoma. Conclusion Over expression of VEGF and MVD is found in tissues of endometrial carcinoma. MVD may be one of prognostic indicators of endometrial carcinoma.
