Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship of PTEN protein expression and prognosis in gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression of PTEN protein in 92 cases of gastric carcinoma and 35 cases of normal gastric mucosa was detected by immunohistochemical SABC method. The patients were followed up after surgery and the survival rate was analyzed. Results The strong positive expression was found in all normal gastric mucosa, while the heterogeneity expression in gastric carcinoma. The PTEN protein partly expressed in well-differentiated gastric mucosa, while the PTEN protein decreased to express or negatively expressed in poorly differentiated carcinoma and metastatic carcinoma. The survival rate of positive expression patients was higher than that of negative expression patients. Conclusion PTEN protein expression decrease or deficiency could be used as an important molecular marker for predicting of gastric carcinoma.
