Abstract

Objective To study the clinical effects of metoprolol for congestive heart failure. MethodsThirty-seven patients with congestive heart failure(cardiac function NYHAⅡ-Ⅲ class) were divided randomly into two groups: treatment group(19 cases) and control group(18 cases). The routine therapy for the two groups was the same, the only difference was that for the treatment group, metoprolol was added. The observable factors such as heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart functional class, left ventricle end-diastole diameter, left ventricle ejection fraction, cardiac index and so on,were collected for both groups. Results After treatment, the observable factors in both groups were improved significently. However, the improvement in the treatment group was markedly superior to that in the control group(P0.05). Conclusion Metoprolol is an effective medicine for congestive heart failure on the basis of routine therapy.
