Current status of hand hygiene in examination center and effects of interventions

OBJECTIVE To understand the status of hand hygiene of the medical staff in the examination center and observe the compliance of hand hygiene after the corresponding interventions are taken.METHODS The questionnaire and hand hygiene monitoring were performed for the medical staff of the examination center.According to the results of the investigation and monitoring,the interventions to the hand hygiene were implemented,the inspections and checks were taken once a month.The questionnaire investigation and the monitoring of hand hygiene were performed after six months.The compliance of hand hygiene of the medical staff was investigated after the continuous interventions.RESULTS After the intervention,the average score of hand hygiene knowledge in the examination center increased from(74.8±6.2) points to(94.6±2.8) points.The hand washing rate increased from 71.8% to 97.4%,the rate of proper hand washing increased from 70.5% to 92.3%;the bacterial colony counts after hand washing decreased from(18.1±5.3) CFU/cm2 to(10.1 ± 3.8) CFU/cm2;the difference in the indexes between before and after the interventions was statistically significant(P0.05).CONCLUSION To strengthen the invention to hand hygiene of the medical staff in the examination center can effectively improve the hand hygiene compliance and is an effective way to prevent and control nosocomial infections.
