On Liu Zhiji's (刘知幾) Achievement in Theory of Historical Data

Abstract
Being the first classic on historical theory in ancient China,Shi Tong (史通) authored by Liu Zhiji (刘知幾),not only differentiated historical data from historical works for the first time,but also divided historical data into 10 different categories. Liu Zhiji argued that novel can be regarded as historical data,nevertheless,historians should be careful when they cited novel as evidence.
