Abstract

Linguistic signs are the focus studied by linguists, especially the characters of linguistic signs. This paper analyzes the arbitrariness of linguistic sign, proposed by Saussure,(including absolute arbitrariness and relative arbitrariness),and compares it with iconicity of linguistic sign proposed by modern cognitive linguists and draws the conclusion that neither of them is absolute and they are dialectical.
