Abstract

Objective To study the therapeutic efficacy of combined traditional and western medicine in frequent-relapses nephrotic syndrome patients. Methods Seventy-one patients with frequent-relapses nephrotic syndrome(NS) were divided randomly into treatment group (n=40) and control group (n=31). The treatment group with 40 patients were received managed with traditional Chinese medicine, prednisone and cyclophosphamide. The control group with 31 patients were received prednisone and cyclophosphamide therapy. Clinical features, 24 h urinary protein value, plasma albumin, renal function, mobidity of side-effect, complications, and relapses were observed in two groups before and after treatment, respectively. Results Complete remission and total effective rate in treatment group were superior to that in control group after treatment(P0.05). Decreased 24h urinary protein value and increased serum albumin were observed and there were significant differences respectively after treatment. But the changes in treatment group were more obvious(P0.05). Side-effects and complications in treatment group markedly decreased than that in control group. Conclusion Combined therapy with traditional and western medicine improve the effect of clinical therapy and reduce side-effect and complications.
