Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of esomeprazole combined with mosapride on outcomes in elderly patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).Methods All 52 cases of reflux esophagitis in elderly patients confirmed by endoscopy were randomly divided into two groups,28 patients as treatment group were given esomeprazole 40 mg once daily, and mosapride 5 mg,3 times daily;Twenty-four patients as control group were given omeprazole 20 mg twice daily, and mosapride 5 mg,3 times daily.Clinical symptoms such as reflux and heartburn were observed after four and eight weeks espectively, and the degrees of reflux esophagitis were detected by endoscopy. Results After four weeks, efficacy rate was 71.4% in treatment group versus 45.8% in control group(P0.05).Significant improvements were demonstrated for treatment group compared with control group after eight weeks. The efficacy rate was 96.4% and 79.1% espectively(P0.05).The heeling rate of injury in mucous memberane of esophagus in endoscopy was higher in the treatment group than that in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion Esomeprazole combined with mosapride is an effective therapeutic agent for the treatment of GERD in elderly patients.
