Abstract
Objective To comprehend university students' social avoidance and distress as well as their perception of social support, to discuss the relationship of social support and university students' social avoidance and distress, so as to provide evidence for students' mental health education. Methods PSSS and SAD were employed in the research, and 1 196 undergraduates in Hebei Normal University were sampled as the research objects. Results University students social avoidance and distress were below the medium level(77.69±12.20), while their perception of social support were above the medium level(62.84±11.78). On terms of social avoidance and distress, male students scored much higher than the female;students in grade three and four scored higher than those in grade one and four; students in love scored higher than student without love; the non-singleton scored higher than singleton; rural students scored higher than urban students. But on terms of perception of social support, males scored higher than females; the students in grade one and three scored lower than those of grade one and four; students of arts scored higher than students of science; rural students scores lower than urban students. Sex and grade interacted with each other on factors of social distress and family support. Perception of social support was negatively correlated with social avoidance and distress. Conclusion University students' social avoidance and perception of social support are influenced by factors of sex, grade specialty, love and origin etc. Perception of social support is an inner factor in influencing university students' social avoidance and distress.
