On the Development of Taoism and the Resurgence of Laoshan Taoism since the Beginning of the Jiajing Period in the Ming Dynasty

Quanzhen Taoism,a branch of Taoism,flourished in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties in northern China and declined in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.However,it once restored to some degree for the sake of the emperors' belief in it during the Jiajing period,the middle Ming dynasty.Among the people,many Taoist masters established new branches,which contributed a lot to the prosperity of Taoism.As a branch of Quanzhen Taoism,Laoshan Taoism once resurged.Laoshan Taoism not only had great influence on the common people,but also drew much attention of the imperial court.The establishment of the three branches of the Longmen School marked its prosperity.
