Abstract
Objective:To study serum adiponectin levels in metabolic syndrome patients(MS) without diabetes and analyse the relationship between serum adiponectin levels and Insulin resistance.Methods:An examination was made among 92 MS patients without diabetes(MS group)and 30 healthy controls.Serum adiponectin level was determined by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.Homeostasis insulin resistance index(Homa-IR)and insulin sensitivity index(ISI) were calculated.Results:The serum level of adiponectin was significantly lower in MS group than that in the control group(1.15±0.81mg/L vs 4.81±1.20 mg/L,P0.01).Linear correlation analysis suggested that the serum adiponectin level was negatively correlated with Homa-IR(P0.01)and positively correlated with ISI(P0.01).However,multiple linear regression analysis suggested that the serum adiponectin level was only negatively correlated with Homa-IR.Conclusion:The level of serum adiponectin in MS cases without diabetes is significantly lowered.The serum adiponectin level is negatively correlated with Homa-IR,suggesting that the serum adiponectin levels are remarkably correlative with the occurrence and the development of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance.
