Abstract

Analysis on the characteristics of 1998 flood in Yangtze River valley is given based on themeasured meteorological and hydrological data as well as data from radar image during flooding period. with the comparisons of similar data in both 1998 and 1954 flood, total flood discharge in 1998 isclosed to that in 1954, however, longer period of higher water level and heavy lossses are happenedduring 1998 flood.
