Abstract

In 1949, from June to September, rainfalls lasted for a long time in Yangtze river basin The total rainfall depth in upper reaches was larger than that in the lower Flood process included many flood peaks Peak discharges at the stations along the Yangtze river were ordinary, but the flood volumes with long duration and annual runoff were rare Main flood volume was produced in upper reaches and the 30 days total inflow proportion of Yichang to Hankou was greater than Flood disasters took place mainly in middle and lower reaches
