Abstract
AIM: To observe the effect of Panax notoginseng saporins on serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in patients with acute cerebral infarction(ACI). METHODS: Forty patients with ACI were randomly divided into two groups. Panax notoginseng saporins group( n =20) was treated with troxerutin, citicoline and Panax notoginseng saporins (500 mg, iv, gtt, qd) for 2 wk. Control group( n =20) was treated with troxerutin and citicoline only. The changes of serum VEGF level were measured using ELISA methods before and after the treatment. RESULTS: The total effective rate was 95 % for Panax notoginseng saporins group, and 65 % for control group, respectively. There was a significant difference between the two groups( P 0.01). The serum level of VEF of the two groups increased significantly after treatment( P 0.01), but the increasing rate of the Panax notoginseng saporins group was more remarkable, compared with control group( P 0.05). CONCLUSION: Panax notoginseng saporins can increase the serum level of VEGF of the patients with ACI and is beneficial to the treatment of them.
