Abstract
The colour reaction of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTMAB) with 3-[3-(4-phenylthiazol-2-yl)triazenyl] benzenesulfonic acid has been developed. The results showed that,in the medium of pH 12.4, the reagent reacted with the CTMAB to form a purple-red ion pair complex with the moloa ratio of 1:3.The ion pair complex exhibits maximum absorption at 555 nm with a molar absorptivity of 1.04× 104 L· mol-1· cm-1.Beer′ s a law is obeyed for CTMAB in the concentration range 0.1× 10-5~ 3.0× 10-5 mol/L.The method was applied to the determination of CTMAB in water sample with satisfactory results.
