Abstract

Objective To explore the expression and significance of MUM-1 of Reed-Sternberg cells(R-S cells) in classical Hodgkin lymphoma(CHL).Methods MUM-1 in 30 cases of CHL were immunohistochemically stained with SP method. The expression of MUM-1 of R-S cell was observed and compared with the expression of CD30,CD15 and pax-5 in R-S cells. Results In all cases of CHL,the intensity of expression of MUM-1 was significantly higher than that of CD30 and CD15.All 30 cases(100%) of CHL showed an intensely caryon staning, while 29 among them(96.7%) for CD30 and 22(73.3%) of 30 cases for CD15 showed weak-to-strong expression, and pax-5 showed weak expression in 25(83.3%) cases. Conclusion MUM-1 is a highly sensitive marker for Reed-Sternberg cells, which is helpful to diagnosis of classical Hodgkin lymphoma and has a high negative predictive value for excluding the classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
